How to unlock pups that will not move or sleep

Right-click the locked pup itself. This is sgthale’s answer to a player whose locked pups would not do anything, including sleep. After unlocking it, return to the command or care task you wanted it to perform.

Right-click the locked pup

A player asked why some pups were locked and would not do anything, even sleep. In the September community reply, developer sgthale answered: “Right click them to unlock them.” The reply is also preserved on sgthale’s public profile, under the kids locked? discussion.

  1. Target the pup that is locked. This action concerns the pup itself, rather than an empty floor point or a building plan.
  2. Right-click that pup to unlock it. Use the right mouse button on that pup, then check its response.
  3. Return to the activity you intended. Check its movement or command response, or resume the care task below.

Use the right mouse button on the pup. The same button has other actions when carrying an object or working with a Blueprint, so keep the target context clear.

It needs food

Get food nearby and stop active commands so it can eat. Unlocking is only one state change; the eating conditions still matter.

Check the meal conditions →

It needs a sleeping place

Keep cots in the family’s sleeping provision. A released pup still needs the sleeping place named by the guidebook.

Resume the task that was interrupted. There is no need to treat right-click as a substitute for the separate follow, food or cot conditions.

For a helper’s work order, use the appropriate target again: E on material for pickup or E on a blue plan for construction. The hauling guide connects those orders into a delivery.

If it still will not act

This action releases a locked pup already in your family; it does not add new pups. If behavior is still abnormal, check active commands, nearby food or cots according to the interrupted task, and include your episode/build when reporting it. Once the pup can take part again, continue with the care-and-work route.
